Dua during funeral prayer (Salat Janaza)
اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَهُ وَارْحَمْهُ، وَعَافِهِ وَاعْفُ عَنْهُ، وَأَكْرِمْ نُزُلَهُ، وَوَسِّعْ مُدْخَلَهُ، وَاغْسِلْهُ بِالْمَاءِ وَالثَّلْجِ وَالْبَرَدِ، وَنَقِّهِ مِنَ الْخَطَايَا كَمَا نَقَّيْتَ الثَّوْبَ الأَبْيَضَ مِنَ الدَّنَسِ
Phonétique
Allahumma ighfir lahu warhamhu, wa 'afihi wa'fu 'anhu, wa akrim nuzulahu, wa wassi' mudkhalahu, waghsilhu bil-ma'i wath-thalji wal-barad, wa naqqihi minal-khataya kama naqqaytath-thawbal-abyada minad-danas
Traduction
O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him, grant him safety and pardon. Honor his reception, widen his grave, wash him with water, snow and hail, and purify him from sins as You purify a white garment from dirt.
Complete dua of the funeral prayer
اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِحَيِّنَا وَمَيِّتِنَا، وَشَاهِدِنَا وَغَائِبِنَا، وَصَغِيرِنَا وَكَبِيرِنَا، وَذَكَرِنَا وَأُنْثَانَا
Phonétique
Allahumma ighfir lihayyina wa mayyitina, wa shahidina wa gha'ibina, wa saghirina wa kabirina, wa dhakarina wa unthana
Traduction
O Allah, forgive our living and our dead, those present and those absent, our young and our old, our men and our women.
When visiting graves
السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ أَهْلَ الدِّيَارِ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُسْلِمِينَ، وَإِنَّا إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ بِكُمْ لَاحِقُونَ، نَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ لَنَا وَلَكُمُ الْعَافِيَةَ
Phonétique
As-salamu 'alaykum ahlad-diyari minal-mu'minina wal-muslimin, wa inna in sha'Allahu bikum lahiqun, nas'alullaha lana wa lakumul-'afiyah
Traduction
Peace be upon you, inhabitants of these dwellings among the believers and Muslims. And we will join you if Allah wills. We ask Allah for safety for us and for you.
For deceased parents
رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَوْمَ يَقُومُ الْحِسَابُ
Phonétique
Rabbighfir li wa liwalidayya wa lil-mu'minina yawma yaqumul-hisab
Traduction
Lord, forgive me and my parents and the believers on the Day when the reckoning will be established.
Dua for parents (mercy)
رَبِّ ارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّيَانِي صَغِيرًا
Phonétique
Rabbir-hamhuma kama rabbayani saghira
Traduction
Lord, have mercy on them as they raised me when I was small.
Upon hearing of a death
إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ، اللَّهُمَّ أْجُرْنِي فِي مُصِيبَتِي وَأَخْلِفْ لِي خَيْرًا مِنْهَا
Phonétique
Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. Allahumma'jurni fi musibati wa akhlif li khayran minha
Traduction
Indeed we belong to Allah and to Him we shall return. O Allah, reward me in my affliction and replace it with something better.
Frequently Asked Questions
You can invoke for the deceased at any time: after obligatory prayers, during funeral prayer, when visiting graves, in the last third of the night, or simply when you think of them. There is no specific required moment.
