Invocations for Visiting Graves

زيارة القبور

Authentic duas to recite when visiting the cemetery according to the Sunnah of the Prophet

Visiting Graves in Islam

Visiting graves (ziyarat al-qubur) is a recommended practice in Islam. Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Visit the graves, for they remind you of death." (Muslim)

This visit has two main objectives:

  • For the visitor: to remember death and the hereafter, to soften the heart and detach from the illusions of this world
  • For the deceased: to benefit from the invocations of the living and their requests for forgiveness from Allah

How to make the visit?

Upon arriving at the cemetery, greet the deceased with the invocations below. Stand facing the graves, do not walk on them, and invoke Allah for the deceased with sincerity. Quran recitation at the cemetery is a matter of scholarly debate, but invocations are unanimously recommended.
